The handle has become hard to lift, push, or turn. On a Moen this is mineral scale and dried seals inside the cartridge. It is not a sign the faucet is failing, and it does not get better on its own.
Not sure this is your faucet? See how to identify your Moen cartridge without a model number, or how to find your brand and model.
1225 cartridge
You have two options. The cheap one: remove the cartridge, clean the scale off it and out of the valve body, and coat the cartridge inside and out with Moen silicone grease, then reinstall. It will move freely again for a year or two. The permanent one: install a new 1225. Both start the same way, in the 1225 replacement guide.
1255 and 1222 cartridges
These are sealed and cannot be regreased. Replace the cartridge. 1222 steps are here.
Handle moves on its own after a rebuild
If the handle drifts closed or will not stay in position after you serviced a 1225 with the 92451 kit, there is too much grease on the small stem O-rings. Wipe the excess off.
