Pfister Faucet Repair: Which Cartridge Do I Have?

Pfister (sold as Price Pfister until 2010) has fewer cartridge families than Moen or Delta, but its part numbers get confused constantly because similar numbers belong to very different parts. The 974-042 is a shower cartridge, not a sink cartridge. The 974-035 is a sink cartridge, not a shower cartridge. This page sorts it out.

New to faucet repair? Start here explains what is inside a faucet, which tools you need, and how to shut off the water, in plain language. If you do not know the model, see how to identify your Pfister cartridge without a model number or how to find your brand and model. Words you do not recognize are in the glossary.

You may not need to buy anything

Pfister’s Pforever Warranty covers finish and function for the life of the home for the original purchaser. Pfister asks that you contact them before buying parts: 1-800-PFAUCET (1-800-732-8238), weekdays 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pacific, Saturdays 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pacific, or the Ask a Question form on their site.
