Delta notes that RP54801 and RP41701 contain the same stems but different bonnet nuts, which is why the -A suffix on the P99673 series matters. The full two handle procedure is on the Delta two handle page.

Before you start. Shut off the two small valves under the sink by turning them clockwise, then open the faucet to confirm the water has stopped. Plug the drain so small parts cannot fall in. You will need a screwdriver, an adjustable wrench or pliers, and for most handles a hex key (an Allen wrench, sold as an inexpensive set at any hardware store). If a shutoff valve will not turn or starts to drip, or anything is corroded and will not loosen with moderate force, stop and see when to call a plumber. New to this? Start here explains the parts and tools in plain language.

Taking it apart

  1. Shut off both stops. Remove the handle (twist the base off on the P99640LF; cap and screw on others).
  2. Unscrew the bonnet nut and pull the stem.
  3. Install the new stem with its stop pointing toward the center of the faucet; hot on the left, cold on the right.

Repairs

  • Drip from the spout: replace the stem on the dripping side
  • Side spray weak (Claymore): diverter
